B Lab announce 2018 ‘Best For The World: Changemakers’ list, honouring organisations, such as Charity Bank, for their meaningful work

The 2018 Best For The World: Changemakers list is released today, honouring the positive impact and behaviour changes amongst certified B Corporations, as measured by non-profit assessor B Lab. Charity Bank is honoured to have been included in this list.

B Corporations are companies that meet the highest standards of verified overall social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, and aspire to use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. Those featured on the Best For The World lists scored in the top 10th percentile of all Certified B Corporations, setting a gold standard for businesses that want to make a positive difference to the world around them.

Charity Bank has been recognised as a Changemaker in recognition of its unique business model – lending only to further charitable or social purposes. Through the provision of fair loan finance, Charity Bank enables charities and social enterprises to make more of difference than would otherwise be possible. Charity Bank was also recognised for making several ethical improvements to its own processes. This includes the introduction of a supplier evaluation procedure against their social and environmental standards.

This Best for The World honour is Charity Bank’s fourth in 2018 alone, having been recognised in June as being in the top 10 per cent of three categories:

  • Best For The World: Customers for creating the most positive impact on its customers
  • Best For The World: Governance for creating an innovative governance structure to protect its mission for the long term
  • Best For The World: Overall thanks to its exceptional practices, social sector ownership and social purpose

“People are hungry for companies like Charity Bank, who are changing the system by building businesses that seek to create the greatest positive impact,” says Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. “Best for the World is the only list of businesses that uses comprehensive, comparable, third-party-validated data about a company’s social and environmental performance. As consumers, talent and investors increasingly demand transparent, values-aligned businesses to buy from, work at and invest in, companies will need to not just be the best in the world, but the best for the world. And not just to be nice, but to be the most successful.”

Edward Sigel, Chief Executive of Charity Bank, added: “We are proud to have been recognised as an organisation that continually seeks to make a bigger difference to the world around us. Honours like these reflect the bank’s commitment to putting social purpose and customer interests at the heart of everything we do. We stand with other organisations that are using business as a tool to build a better world.”

Charity Bank became the first bank in Europe and sixth organisation in the UK to become a Certified B Corporation in January 2015. Today, there is a growing community of 2,400 Certified B Corporations committed to redefining success in business.
